| background  = Rin lives in the dorms with Futaba and works in Koi Cafe on weekends, where she often spends her free time as well. In the beginning, Sensei is often the victim of her attempts at new recipes during his visits, which are usually undrinkable.

   | characteristics = Rin is friendly towards almost all the girls and usually almost nothing can put her off. However, as she suffers from bipolar disorder, if she experiences some strong emotional tension, she falls into a deep depression. During this, she doesn't take care of herself, denies herself sleep, and is also prone to self-harm. But once she gets over this part, she returns to his normal behaviour and pretends that nothing happened.  She has a great fondness for music.
Rin is the only daughter of two, unnamed people. She knows little about her biological parents, aside from the obvious fact they didn't want a kid. She grew up in an orphanage until eventually being adopted by Rika Rokuhara and her wife. According to Rin, despite the obvious difference of her being adopted, her family was normal, and her mothers worked hard to be attentive and as caring as they could, even noticing the signs of her depression before she did.

During elementary, she'd met Futaba, sparking a lifelong friendship, and during middle school, she'd meet Nodoka, Yumi, and started crushing on Chika. It was around this time that the first signs of her bipolar disorder would start to surface, although she initially kept the issue to herself before confiding the Futaba about it. She eventually enrolled in Kumon-Mi High and was put into Sensei's class.

Rin is excitable and generally friendly to all the girls in the class, easily making conversation with almost anyone. It's this friendly personality that's allowed her to make friends with people as different as Futaba, Sensei, Otoha, Sana, Chika, and Ami. She cares deeply for her friends and desperately works to prove this devotion by trying to divide her time between them equally, to varying results. She also loves music and is a hobby guitarist, though Sensei never witnesses her playing. This love of music, and girls, is what initially draws her to Otoha and her later induction into the Light Music Club.

Underneath this exterior is an anxious, emotional girl. Suffering her whole life from bipolar disorder, extreme bursts of stress or emotional tension can result in her falling into a deep depression, usually only ended by acts of self-harm. Despite her attempts to hide this part of herself, Futaba, Sensei, and and Molly all find out. She fully understands this part of her is self-destructive and is aware of how her friends and loved ones will react, so she actively tries to fight these feelings off and keep them hidden as long as possible.

Unlike some girls, Rin has no romantic feelings for Sensei, but considers him a good friend ("homie"). She often tells him about her pent-up feelings towards Chika and Otoha. At the same time, she is partly jealous of Sensei because of his relationship with Chika, as he stole her chance to have a deeper relationship with her.
Unlike most of the class, Rin has no obvious romantic feelings for Sensei, and the two have a mostly platonic relationship, formed as Sensei starts to frequent Koi Cafe. Rin cares deeply for Sensei and values his advice and presence, considering him one of the most important people in her life. If certain actions are avoided, she's shown to have deeper feelings for him, but never acts on these. She affectionately refers to him as her "homie".
Futaba
Futaba
Futaba is her best friend. She is often the only one besides Sensei who can get Rin out of her depressive states. Rin defends Futaba from being mocked by Yumi and is greatly concerned when Futaba decides to stop eating because of her weight.
Futaba is Rin's best friend and the two have known each other since Elementary School. At the start of the game, she's the only one who knows about Rin's cycles of depression and is often the one to look after her when they break out. In return, Rin is very attentive to Futaba's troubles, usually noticing changes or issues before anyone else. Their relationship remains strong throughout the game, looking out for each other while also struggling with their problems.
Chika
Chika
Rin has a very strong crush on Chika. However, despite her lively and energetic personality, Rin always finds herself shy and embarrassed around Chika, and seems to recognize that they both have somewhat different tastes and traits. When Chika rejects her because of her feelings for Sensei, she breaks down. She recovers only after Chika explains her reasons and promises her that it won't affect their friendship.
Rin has had a crush on Chika dating back to their time together in middle school. Despite how approachable and friendly Chika is, Rin struggles to even begin a conversation with her, causing Chika to worry that she might be coming off as unfriendly. Eventually, Rin works up to courage to confess to her and is soundly rejected, causing her to slip into another depressive episode. It's only once Chika confronts her and explains herself that Rin recovers, and the two promise to remain friends despite this hiccup. While they aren't seen hanging out frequently, they're both members of the Light Music Club and Chika extends her advice after Rin and Otoha begin to fight.
Otoha
Otoha
Otoha is Rin's second love. The two share a fondness for music, and according to Otoha, they have been spending long hours talking even before she joined Sensei's class. Like before, Rin is completely obsessed with Otoha and often acts nervous around her, even though Otoha tries to persuade her to chill down. Rin eventually confesses to Otoha during the winter beach trip, and unlike in the case with Chika, the two of them start a relationship, which Rin is incredibly enthusiastic about from the first moment, sharing the news immediatelly with the entire class.
Otoha is Rin's second big crush, and later, her first girlfriend. They share a mutual interest in music which sparked an initial friendship between them. Ever since meeting her, Rin's had a crush on Otoha and has obsessed over how to impress her extensively, causing Rin to be extremely jittery and awkward whenever they speak in person. After her confession, Rin manages to calm down, but still shows signs of exaggerated anxiety concerning the future of their relationship. During the second Dorm Wars, the two begin to fight, causing future tension between the two that isn't resolved until Christmas.
Molly
Molly is Rin's friend and a fellow member of the Manga Club. Unbeknownst to Rin, Molly has an enormous crush on Rin and pays extra attention her to after accidentally discovering evidence of her self-harm. Rin remains oblivious to this, even after they share a kiss on Christmas. Her blindness to this fact causes a large amount of tension between the two, especially once Rin begins displaying obvious signs of her crush on Otoha. This culminates into a fight between the two which puts a permanent wedge in their friendship that is only somewhat resolved in Normal-ish.
Sana
Sana
Rin happily chats with Sana at Sensei's suggestion, becoming only Sana's second friend.
Sana is one of Rin's classmates and sits at the desk next to hers. Despite sharing a mutual interest in video games, the two don't speak at all until Stronger I Become, where Sensei forces Sana into forming a friendship with her. They don't hang out as much as Rin does with Futaba or Sana with Ayane, but Sana considers Rin her second friend.

Rin and Molly bond over RPGs. Molly has an enormous crush on Rin and is very concerned for her. Rin, however, seems completely unaware of Molly's feelings. At the Christmas Party, during a game of Spin the Bottle, Molly manages to steal Rin's first kiss, Rin is unhappy about this, and won't talk to Molly for over a week.
